Having not-so-great, ever-changing skin means I’m constantly looking for the next great foundation. I thought I had found it in Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer (and no doubt that I still love it), but it took too long to apply correctly… I want those extra minutes in the morning to sleep! Plus my arm got too tired trying blending it with my beautyblender, but that’s probably just my problem.
I found MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation while browsing Sephora reviews, as one does. Because of my need for speed, I was immediately drawn to the stick applicator. The reviews were mostly positive, and with a great return policy, I thought why not?
Well I didn’t want to pay $43 for it, but it turns out I’ll pay almost anything for a good foundation and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
MUFE Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation is made to be undetectable on skin to cameras and the naked eye. It has buildable, medium-to-full coverage and a natural finish. They also suggest buying another color in a few shades darker to use as a contouring stick.
It’s packaged well, with a protective plastic cover within a pull off top. I don’t know if you’re supposed to get rid of the plastic cover once you start using it, but I’m keeping it anyway. It’s not a huge product, but it’s big enough that it makes me think it will last for at least a few months.
After moisturizing, I swiped it directly from the tube onto my forehead, cheeks, and chin. Using a damp beautyblender, I stippled it into my skin. This part was awesome. Right away it started blending into my skin and I could definitely see why this is called an ‘Ultra HD’ foundation. It really seemed to disappear into my skin! A+ for that.
This doesn’t give full coverage on the first go around, but it is labeled as ‘buildable’ coverage. This seems to be true. I have acne scars that need to be covered and it didn’t hide the darkest spots. For those areas, I went back over with another layer of foundation, and this was another exciting part. Doubling up layers didn’t make the foundation cakey or less invisible! Love love love.
Some days I’ve been following up with powder, my bareMinerals Mineral Veil, but I like how it looks best without powder. It has a natural to dewy finish, but nothing that makes you appear shiny.
I do have to say that if you have problem areas that you want 100% covered, you will probably need to use another foundation. I don’t mind that some marks show through, but I plan on experimenting with more techniques to see how much coverage I can get.
As for color–I previously had my skin color matched with the Color IQ and found out I’m a 2Y06. That made it easy to buy the MUFE Stick Foundation, in 123 = Y365 – Desert online. This is the second time I’ve ordered a foundation based on my color IQ number, and so far it’s worked like a dream. The color was perfect.
I’m a little concerned with the cleanliness of the product. Although I love the quickness of it, I’m not completely onboard about constantly applying it straight from the tube. I try to make myself feel better by reminding myself that I only ever apply on cleaned skin.
This will probably be the foundation I use for a long time. Some of the reviews said that it made them very oily by the end of the day, but that’s not something I experienced at all. It looks a little worn towards the end of the day, when some oil starts to break through but nothing more than I’ve experience with other foundations. It doesn’t oxidize, and it doesn’t start to fade away.
I’m still waiting to make sure it doesn’t cause any major breakouts. It’s been four days of use and nothing awful has happened, but I still need to give it more time until I feel sure that it won’t mess up my skin. I really do hope it keeps me clear
Overall, this is a solid purchase and I highly recommend you go out and try it! I’d love to hear if you find a better way to apply it to maximize coverage.
