First Impression Review: Herbivore Blue Tansy AHA + BHA Resurfacing Clarity Mask

I just received a deluxe sample of Herbivore Blue Tansy AHA + BHA Resurfacing Clarity Mask from Sephora using a promo code. It caught my eye when I saw it, and with its many, many positive reviews I added it to cart. Today I used it for the first time.

Herbivore Blue Tansy looks and feels like a slightly melted Jello, but the smell is adult–intoxicatingly delicious and herbal in a way that makes me unsure if I love it or hate it.

P.S. Scroll to the bottom of this post to see my thoughts a month later!

In the jar it’s a stunning deep blue, and it wouldn’t be incorrect to call it the prettiest product I own. Everything from the mask to the jar to the label look good. This thing is going to stay on my vanity.

On the skin it feels cool, but I don’t feel the tingly sensation it mentions. The feeling is only slight, probably because I use acids ok my skin every day. After a few minutes the gel turns a tackier texture and I can feel it drying lightly on my skin. After 10 minutes, the tingling is slightly stronger but not uncomfortably so.

Herbivore Blue Tansy uses AHA and BHA acids from blue tansy (obviously), fruit acids, and white willow bark to exfoliate and smooth skin. It claims to increase clarity and smoothness when you use it regularly.

It suggests leaving it on 10-20 minutes, so I wait the full 20 to wash it off with warm water and a wash cloth. Afterwards, my skin feels exfoliated, but not in a major way. I still notice some dry skin on a healing blemish. One positive is that my skin doesn’t feel right or dry like some clarifying masks can make it, instead it feels slightly moisturized.

Even though the product is only a sample, there’s plenty left in the jar. I haven’t yet used it long enough to know the long term results, but I’m looking forward to using this weekly. Based on this first use, I don’t think the immediate benefits make it a good product, but I’ll check in after a few more uses to give my final verdict. Although if you have some money to spare, the experience of using it (and keeping it on your shelf) might be worth the cost itself.

You can buy Herbivore Blue Tansy AHA & BHA Clarifying Mask from Sephora for $48.

UPDATE: I did it. I bought the full size during Sephora’s VIB sale. I’m actually wearing it on my face right now. The good things I said above are still true… this mask keeps my skin feeling exfoliated without drying it up. It makes me glow. It just makes me feel good and it smells great and looks pretty. I just love it, okay?
